This project provides a fundamental work of reference for the descriptions and appearance of ancient decorated pottery. Over the years this has come to concentrate on Greek and Etruscan pottery, but there is a wide spread of material from Bronze Age Greek, Cypriot and local Italian to the more familiar Athenian black and red figure. The principal aim has been to cover all collections, and to see that the vases are properly cleaned of restoration and comprehensively photographed for publication, with a scholarly description and commentary. This provides a major resource for research in art history, iconography, the pottery trade and so on.
