The purpose of the Sylloge Nummorum Graecorum is to publish illustrated catalogues of Greek coins in public and private collections in the British Isles. There is an unusually rich and varied collection of Greek coins in the British Isles, and the project covers a wide period of Ancient Greek history, as well as all areas of Greek habitation and colonisation. SNG has retained the traditional, very broad, definition of 'Greek' to include the coins produced by all ancient civilisations of the Mediterranean and neighbouring regions, except Rome, though it does include the Roman Provincial series often known as 'Greek provincials'. More recently the SNG has begun to explore the possibilities of digital publication and has established the world's largest illustrated database of Greek coinage.
