The British Academy provides annual funding to a network of British International Research Institutes (BIRI, formerly known as BASIS) operating in different regions of the world. These schools and institutes engage in important research and fieldwork across a wide range of humanities and social sciences disciplines and sustain and support UK research overseas. They conduct research, collaborate with a wide range of overseas and UK-based partners, and provide facilities, training and financial, academic and logistical support to researchers. They also run events programmes, held in the UK and overseas, and publication series.
