EUROPEAN STATES AND THE EURO

A TWO DAY CONFERENCE

14 - 15 SEPTEMBER 2000

THE BRITISH ACADEMY, 10 CARLTON HOUSE TERRACE, LONDON, SW1Y 5AH

This conference aims to examine how the advent of the euro is affecting European states - their political discourse, identities, structures and policies - as a major case study of 'Europeanization'; whether there are common patterns and significant variations and how they are to be explained; and how these effects relate both to the longer historical process of EMU (notably the ERM) and to wider developments within the European Union and at the global level. How is the euro affecting European states; what are its effects; who is affected, and in what ways?

All those interested are welcome to attend, but because of limited space it is essential to register in advance, and places will be allocated on a 'first come, first served' basis. In order to register, please contact Rosemary Lambeth at the British Academy, 10 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5AH (telephone: 020 7969 5200; r.lambeth@britac.ac.uk). If you would like to have buffet lunch at the Academy, tickets are available at a cost of £12 per person.
