Picasso: Genius or Showman?
The British Academy, 10 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1
Monday, 5 April 2004, 6pm
FULLY BOOKED
Treated like a media star in his own lifetime, Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) is the subject of more books, films and exhibitions than any other 20th-century artist and continues to provoke lively controversy. In an evening's conversation, Elizabeth Cowling (winner of the 2003 British Academy Book Prize and Reader in Art History, Edinburgh University) and Dawn Adès ( Fellow of the British Academy and Professor of Art History, University of Essex) will discuss the Picasso phenomenon in the light of contemporary debates about interpretation, museum policy and the persona of the vanguard artist.
The conversation will be followed by a book-signing and complementary drinks reception.
This is a free public event, but, as seats are strictly limited, registration is essential. All seats will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
