On Wednesday 12 September 2007, the British Academy hosted an event to discuss UK-Brazil Research Collaboration. This event provided the opportunity for leading academics in the humanities and social sciences from Brazil to meet with their counterparts in the UK to discuss the opportunities and ptitfalls for research between the two countries, and to explore opportunities for future collaborations.

On 13 September, the British Academy signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CAPES, the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education, in association with the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, with the aim of providing a framework to support future research activity.
