About these events

Main conference (by invitation only)

See PROGRAMME

This conference, to be held at the British Academy on March 10-12, 2008, will discuss how the rabbinic texts composed in late antiquity can be used as evidence for the history of late-Roman Palestine. The objective of the conference is to generate a single volume, to be published by the Academy, containing a clear expression of the issues which arise in the historical interpretation of rabbinic material in order to encourage increased and more sophisticated use of this material by ancient historians.

The main sessions of the conference will be devoted to discussion of the draft chapters of the book. Each chapter will be circulated to participants in advance of the conference and introduced briefly by its author.

Papers published in 2010 as Rabbinic Texts and the History of Late-Roman Palestine, edited by Martin Goodman & Philip Alexander (Proceedings of the British Academy, 165)
