Speakers: Baroness Onora O'Neill, President, British Academy; Dr Joanna Newman, British Library; Professor Kevin Schurer, University of Essex; Professor Robert Bennett, FBA, University of Cambridge

This event will explore issues which the digital revolution is raising for the research community, particularly in the humanities and social sciences.  These will include the new opportunities digital tools offer researchers; the impact of the digital revolution on research and teaching (both positive and negative); the impact for public and university libraries; the kinds of investment in and support for digital technology the UK requires in order to sustain its world-leading position in research; the specific implications of  the digital future for intellectual property and copyright; and whether Government policy is taking sufficient cognisance of all of these challenges.


Please note our attendance and seating policy:

  • This event is free of charge. There is no advance registration for this event and no tickets will be issued.
  • The rooms for this event will be open from 6.30pm onwards - please do not arrive at the Academy before this time.
  • The first 100 audience members arriving at the Academy will be offered a seat in our Lecture Room where this event will take place. The next 50 people to arrive will be offered a seat in our Overflow Room which has a video and audio link to the Lecture Room.
