Isaiah Berlin Centenary

Wolfson College, Oxford

Saturday 6 June 2009

Convenor: Professor Jon Stallworthy, FBA

 FULLY BOOKED

Sir Isaiah Berlin, OM, CBE, FBA, philosopher, historian of ideas and President of the Academy, was one of the greatest public intellectuals of the twentieth century. Since 2001, the Academy has organised an annual lecture, endowed by Sir Isaiah under his will, which explores the contemporary condition of any of the fields of learning with which the Academy is concerned.

For 2009, to celebrate the centenary of Sir Isaiah's birth, the Academy's Isaiah Berlin Lecture has been amalgamated with Wolfson Cellege's own Isaiah Berlin Lecture. It will be delivered by Dr James H Billington, Librarian of Congress.

It will form part of a day of celebratory events, including a piano recital by Murray Perahia, held at Wolfson College, Oxford, which Sir Isaiah helped to found, and of which he was first President. An exhibition of Berliniana will also be mounted at the College.
