Thu 9 - Fri 10 Jun 2016, 09:00 - 18:00

On 9-10 June 2016, the British Academy hosted an Institute for Fiscal Studies conference on Child Well-Being and the Role of Public Policy.

The conference followed on from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) flagship publication of 2015, "The Early Years: Child Well-Being and the Role of Public Policy." There was a focus on lessons that can be learned from the literature on the early years, their long term consequences, and the potential role for policy. With an aim to bring together experts working on different contexts and across different disciplines. Key issues that affect the early childhood environment were addressed, with research presented on parenting and early schooling. Topics included improving quality of Early Childhood care in the home and child-care centres; scaling-up ECD programs; process of skill formation over the course of childhood; long-run effects of early childhood investments.
