Anglo-Saxon literature, especially Ælfric and the Alfredian writings; early medieval commentary on Boethius's Consolation of Philosophy


Malcolm Godden has been Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford University since 1991, and previously taught at Cambridge, Cornell and Liverpool universities. He has published widely on the writings of Ælfric, on the works traditionally attributed to King Alfred, and on Piers Plowman, and is editor of the journal Anglo-Saxon England. His edition of the Old English Boethius was published earlier this year (2009) and he is currently leading a collaborative research project on Boethius and early medieval commentary, funded by the Leverhulme Trust.
