British Academy: The UK's National Academy for the Humanities and Social Sciences
Bilateral Agreements
The British Academy has a number of bilateral agreements with partner institutions to support collaborative research with particular countries. Below are details of those that provide funding opportunities.
Taiwan - National Science Council
The British Academy and the National Science Council of Taiwan co-fund one-year research partnerships between UK scholars and scholars in Taiwan under the umbrella of the International Partnership and Mobility Scheme.
Japan – Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)
In its capacity as a foreign nominating authority, the British Academy is entitled to nominate up to three candidates for JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships each year. Fellowships are awarded for a period of 12 to 24 months and are wholly funded by JSPS. Further details can be found on the JSPS website and the Academy’s electronic grant application system, e-GAP2. Applications should be made either via the British Academy or can be made independently of the British Academy, through host researchers in Japan.
The British Academy provides assistance to JSPS in assessing applications to the JSPS Short Term Award Programme which provides the opportunity for short-term visits for young pre- and post-doctoral researchers to conduct cooperative research with leading groups at Japanese Universities and Institutions. Awards cover visits of 1 to 12 months. Applications and information enquiries should be made to the JSPS London Office.
JSPS has an Invitation Fellowship Programme for senior scholars to make visits to Japan. Applications and information enquiries should be made directly to the JSPS by the Japanese hosts.
