British Academy: The UK's National Academy for the Humanities and Social Sciences
British Academy Visiting Scholars
The Newton International Fellowships scheme is currently closed for applications. For more information please see the Newton International Fellowships website.
Overseen by the British Academy, The Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society, this scheme aims to improve links between overseas researchers and UK scholars through the provision of two-year research fellowships in the UK for foreign scholars.
The Academy's Visiting Scholars scheme, launched in 2005, enables early-career scholars from overseas to apply directly to the Academy, in conjunction with their UK hosts, for research visits to the UK of two to six months. The main purpose of the visit should be to enable the visitor to pursue research.
The UK host must be resident in the UK, and must undertake to make all the necessary practical and administrative arrangements for the visit. The Academy grants the title of British Academy Visiting Scholar and awards funding for the visit.
BA/ESRC Chinese Visiting Scholars: Funds from the Academy and the ESRC have been earmarked to support applicants from China. See below for links to application forms and further details for both the UK Host and the Visiting Scholar.
