Umm al-Biyara in Petra: Excavating the Iron Age settlement and Nabataean palace, 1960-2012

Speaker: Prof Piotr Bienkowski (University of Manchester)
Umm al-Biyara, the highest mountain in Petra, was the first Iron Age ‘Edomite’ site to be excavated, by Crystal-M. Bennett. Prof Bienkowski will take us through those original, pioneering excavations, as well as his current fieldwork on the very edge of the summit which has identified a Nabataean royal residence.
