Area Panels
The 2010 rounds of the UK Latin America and the Caribbean Link scheme and the International Partnerships scheme are now open, and will close on 20 April 2010.
The Academy's International Policy Committee aims to promote academic collaboration and exchange in all parts of the world, across the full range of disciplines which the Academy supports. For historical reasons, the bulk of the Academy's international links and country-specific funding programmes have focused on links with partner institutions in the former USSR, Eastern Europe and China.
In 2003 the International Policy Committee agreed that Area Panels of experts should be formed periodically to advise on strategy and potential developments for regions where the Academy has few or no institutional links. Africa and Latin America were identified as priority areas, alongside South Asia and the Middle East.
The China Selection Panel, jointly funded by the ESRC, has overseen relations with China since 1980.
Area Panels on Africa and on Latin America and the Caribbean were established in March 2005.
A Europe Panel was established in May 2006, to review the Academy's existing relations with European partners and with international organisations.
Area Panels on the Middle East and North Africa and on South Asia were established in July 2007.
