British Academy: The UK's National Academy for the Humanities and Social Sciences
Europe Panel: Terms of Reference
In relation to postdoctoral research in the humanities and social sciences, the Area Panels are asked to:
- Review the pattern, structure and purpose of the Academy’s current agreements and memoranda of understanding with national organisations in European countries, in the context of
- academic relations with the region
- UK academic research on the region
- collaborative research with scholars in the region
- opportunities for scholars in the region to conduct research in the UK
- UK, EU and international funding for research on and in the region;
- Make recommendations to the Academy for any changes to the structure and pattern of agreements and memoranda of understanding;
- Consider the purpose, cost and benefits of the Academy’s membership of pan-European organizations such as the European Science Foundation and ALLEA (All European Academies) and make recommendations to the Academy on future involvement;
- Consider the Academy’s engagement with the European Union, especially with the Framework Programmes, and make recommendations to the Academy on the structure and nature of future involvement;
- Report to the Academy's International Engagement Committee after each meeting (and at the end of the financial year).
