Area Panels: Terms of Reference

In relation to postdoctoral research in the humanities and social sciences, the Area Panels are asked to:

  1. keep under review the current UK academic (postdoctoral) links with the region, and identify UK gaps (disciplinary, area). This would include:
    • academic relations with the region
    • UK academic research on the region
    • collaborative research with scholars in the region
    • opportunities for scholars in the region to conduct research in the UK
    • UK, EU and international funding for research on and in the region;
  2. advise the International Policy Committee on where the Academy could and should address any gaps in UK links;
  3. identify possible partner organisations for the British Academy both within and relating to the region;
  4. recommend appropriate strategies and actions for developing research links between the UK and the region, and building research capacity in the humanities and social sciences in, and in relation to, the region in question;
  5. report to the International Policy Committee after each meeting
