The Chinese Renaissance in Europe
Friday, 9 March 2012, 09:00 – 18:30
The British Academy, London
China has arrived. What do we do now? That is the central question of the forthcoming one-day workshop organised by the British Academy. The event will gather representatives from the government, the media, NGOs and the wider academic community whose expertise is in Europe, China and international affairs more broadly.
The conference will focus on four key aspects of China’s growing significance in Europe and Europe’s responses:
- China in European politics: how does the arrival of China in Europe raise domestic issues that our political leaders will have to grapple with?
- The Chinese in Europe: how are Chinese communities developing in Europe, and how does this affect us socially, culturally and economically?
- Chinese Investments in Europe: how are banks and international financial institutions responding to the increasing impact of Chinese government’s sovereign wealth on European governmental finance?
- Digital China: what are the key technological changes occurring in China and how can and should Europe participate?
