Simon Bolivar at the British Academy

On Wednesday, 13 July 2011, Colombian Ambassador, Mauricio Rodriguez Munera, unveiled a sculpture of Simon Bolivar presented to the British Academy by the Colombian Embassy.  The event also featured a keynote speech on Simon Bolivar by acclaimed historian, Professor David Brading FBA.  For further details, including an audio recording of the event, please visit the event webpage  

The Mexican Revolution 1910-2010: Historical and Cultural Perspectives

The British Academy and Embassy of Mexico to the UK held an event on 17 November 2010 to commemorate the centenary of the Mexican Revolution.  The conference invited new perspectives on events from leading experts from both the UK and Mexico, and culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the British Academy and the Mexican Academy of Sciences.  Further information, including a recording of the event and copies of presentations given, is available here.

UK-Colombia Collaboration: Past, Present and Future

On 27 April, 2010, the British Academy and Colciencias (Colombia's National Department of Science, Technology and Innovation) signed an agreement of co-operation as the culmination of a one-day event to celebrate the long history of collaboration between the UK and Colombia.  The event featured a number of papers reflecting on the Colombian wars of Independence and British involvment in these, as well as a session on collaborative research opportunities between the UK and Colombia.  For further information and to listen to a recording of the event, please visit the UK-Colombia Collaboration event webpage

Celebrating the City- Mexico City through History and Culture

A one-day conference tracing the history of the city from its pre-Columbian origins to its transition into modernity was held at the British Academy on 30 October 2007. Sponsored jointly by the Academy and the Mexican Embassy to the UK, it featured a keynote speech by the writer Carlos Monsiváis. UK/Brazil Research Collaboration meeting

Presentations from the Academy's meeting on UK/Brazil research collaboration held on 12 September 2007 are now online

Agreement with Brazil

The Academy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CAPES (the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education) and the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. The MoU is intended to promote research collaboration between the UK and Brazil.
