A British Academy Forum held on 2 February 2010, to offer an economic analysis of the options for the ‘Independent Review of Higher Education Funding and Student Finance’ recently set up by the UK Government in consultation with the Opposition.

The meeting discussed how to finance a high quality and diverse higher education system which is affordable to students and taxpayers, and which allows access irrespective of ability to pay upfront.

Opening presentations:

Professor Nicholas Barr, ‘Future funding options: what policies in what order?’

Professor Neil Shephard FBA, ‘Deferred tuition fees for universities’
