Publications Committee
The Publications Committee oversees the Academy’s publishing activity (in all media), monitors its effectiveness, and ensures the sound management of the Academy’s Publications Funds. It assesses and decides on all proposals for publication by the Academy, and all material submitted for publication. It determines and keeps under review the balance of the Academy’s academic publishing activity, and develops new programmes as appropriate. The Committee also settles policy in regard to the publication by other publishers of Academy copyright material.

Terms of reference
The terms of reference for the Publications Committee are:
- to oversee the Academy’s publishing activity (in all media), to monitor its effectiveness, and to ensure the sound management of the Academy’s Publications Funds;
- to assess and decide on all proposals for publication by the Academy, and all material submitted for publication;
- to determine and keep under review the balance of the Academy’s academic publishing activity, and to develop new programmes as appropriate;
- to settle policy in regard to the publication by other publishers of Academy copyright material;
- to advise Council and other Academy committees on issues pertaining to academic publishing in the humanities and social sciences;
- to report to Council after each meeting.
Communications and Activities Committee (CAC)
The CAC oversees, co-ordinates and promotes a varied programme of activities - conferences, panel discussions, workshops - which are held under the Academy's auspices or jointly with other organisations, both for a scholarly and more general public. The Committee develops initiatives and activities which stimulate intellectual interchange between Fellows of the Academy and wider publics, and also contributes to the understanding and appreciation of scholarship in the humanities and social sciences. The Committee oversees the award of the Academy’s medals and prizes. The Publications Committee and the CAC have established an informal joint planning group to develop a co-ordinated external relations strategy and to generate high impact initiatives.

Terms of reference
The terms of reference for CAC are:
- to oversee, co-ordinate and promote a varied programme of scholarly events held under the Academy’s auspices or jointly with other learned bodies, both for a scholarly and more general public;
- to advise Council on the resources needed for this purpose and to administer the funds made available;
- to oversee the organisation of individual events, ensuring that suitable planning arrangements are in place, that programmes are of a high scholarly standard and that proper budgets are set;
- to liaise with the Publications Committee on matters to do with the publication of Academy meetings;
- to have general oversight of the Academy’s lecture programme;
- to develop activities which will increase intellectual interchange amongst the Fellows of the Academy, the holders of Academy research posts and others supported by Academy grants;
- to have regard for the need to develop new initiatives and activities which will contribute to the public appreciation and understanding of scholarship and learning;
- to report to Council after each meeting.
The Chief Executive/Secretary is ex officio a member of all Academy committees
