Research Committee
The Research Committee takes an overview and advises Council of the Academy’s research policy in the context of national requirements and developments; advises Council on financial needs. It monitors the terms in which schemes are advertised; the demand for schemes, the awards made, with particular regard to the balance between disciplines, and considers questions of general principle and practice referred to it by other Academy committees.

Terms of reference
The terms of reference for the Research Committee are:
- to take an overview of the Academy’s research policy in the context of national requirements and developments;
- to advise Council on research policy, and on financial needs;
- to frame the annual bid to Council for financial support for research programmes;
- to monitor the terms in which schemes are advertised;
- to monitor the demand for schemes;
- to monitor awards made, with particular regard to the balance between disciplines;
- to consider questions of general principle and practice referred to it by Council, Posts or Grants Committees.
Grants Committee
The Grants Committee allocates funds for research and conferences. It determines appropriate procedures for (a) grant-giving and (b) the evaluation of outcomes of awards

Terms of reference
The terms of reference for the Grants Committee are:
- to allocate funds for research and conference grants schemes;
- to approve and monitor grants;
- to determine appropriate procedures for (a) grant-giving and (b) evaluation of outcomes of awards.
Posts Committee
The Posts Committee is responsible for making the awards of research posts, receiving and reviewing the judgments expressed by Section Standing Committees and Selection Panels. The Committee is also responsible for reviewing and making recommendations to Council via the Research Committee on the policy on selection procedures, and on the numbers of awards to be offered, and consequent funding required for them. A representative of the Leverhulme Trust attends the meeting of the Committee when it decides on awards of Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowships. The Chairman has particular responsibility for monitoring the implementation of policy affecting award-holders, and for reviewing annual reports received.

Terms of reference
The terms of reference for the Posts Committee are:
- to approve and monitor awards;
- to determine appropriate procedures (a) for the selection of candidates and (b) evaluation of outcomes of awards;
- to advise Council on any recommended changes to policy or procedure.
Projects Committee
The Projects Committee assess the scope for new projects and initiatives in the light of the mission of the Academy and prospective developments in the academic community, and recommends potential initiatives, especially collaborative ventures, for Academy support and funding. It maintains oversight, including periodic review, of the progress and needs of projects designated as Academy Research Projects. It administers periodic competitions for additions to the Academy’s portfolio of ARPs and for other forms of project support and special initiatives.

Terms of reference
The terms of reference for the Projects Committee are:
- to assess the scope for new projects and initiatives in the light of the mission of the Academy and prospective developments in the academic community, and to recommend potential initiatives, especially collaborative ventures, for Academy support and funding;
- to maintain oversight, including periodic review (in conjunction with the Publications Committee where appropriate), of the progress and needs of projects designated as Academy Research Projects; including the Centenary Research Project, the programme of Subscriptions to Collaborative International Projects, and the existing Academy Research Projects (ARPs);
- to administer periodic competitions for additions to the Academy's portfolio of ARPs (approximately every three years); and for other forms of project support and special initiatives, as approved by the Research Committee, and in co-operation with other Academy committees as appropriate;
- to monitor and evaluate programmes within its remit;
- to submit and annual report and frame a bid for financial support to the Research Committee;
- to allocate funds in the light of budgets and priorities set by the Research Committee.
The Chief Executive/Secretary is ex officio a member of all Academy committees
