British Academy announces First World War events for 2014

Throughout November the British Academy will be holding a series of events, including a concert, a poetry reading, a conference and an exhibition as part of theFirst World War Centenary Partnership.

Led by the Imperial War Museum, the First World War Centenary Partnership is a global programme of cultural events, exhibitions and activities, and online resources that connect current and future generations with the lives, stories and impact of the First World War.

10 Carlton House Terrace – from Home to Hospital

An exhibition of photographs, diaries and poems by soldiers and the women who volunteered to nurse them back to health when 10 Carlton House Terrace was transformed from a home into a hospital for wounded officers during thefirst world war.

Terrible Beauty: Music and Writing of the First World War

An evening of songs, music and writings responding to the conflict from Great Britain and beyond, including performances by the British tenor Andrew Kennedy and readings by the poet-critic Angela Leighton FBA.

The Past Hovering: An Evening of War Poetry       

The evening will feature readings by three distinguished poets – Michael Longley, Andrew Motion and Jon Stallworthy FBA – who over many years and in different forms have deeply engaged with the First World War and its poetry.
