British Academy Centenary Monographs

Published between 1999 and 2007

The British Academy was established by Royal Charter in 1902. As part of its Centenary celebrations, the Academy published a series of major monographs to demonstrate the vitality of British scholarship at the start of a new millennium. The subject spread of the Centenary monographs reflected the Academy’s wide coverage of the humanities and social sciences. Some volumes considered developments in scholarship in the 20th century, while others looked forward to the challenges of the 21st, or simply took the opportunity to address a topic of current relevance. This series is now complete.
