Changing behavior through technology: therapeutic culture and the digital revolution

Principal Investigator: Dr China Mills, University of Sheffield

Abstract

Use of technology to elicit behavioural and psychological change is fast becoming a key frontier in international development policy delivered by state and non-state actors. Funding is sought to analyse the social life and cultural biographies (production, use, appropriation and resistance) of digital technologies for behaviour change. Specifically we will conduct three case studies of digital technologies eliciting behavioural change in India, South Africa and Australia. This project develops a new research method to analyse how technology and therapeutic culture are enacted within international development.
