Dr Jeannine Baker

Dr. Jeannine Baker is a Media Historian and co-Deputy Director of the Centre for Media History at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Baker will be spending her British Academy Visiting Fellowship at the University of Sussex, working closely with Professor David Hendy and his team on the AHRC-funded ‘BBC Connected Histories’ project, which is bringing the BBC’s oral history collection into the public realm.

Dr. Baker's research will focus on Australian women at the BBC, and gendered career pathways in broadcasting, particularly women working in technical positions. During the fellowship, she will also participate in workshops and events at the Sussex Humanities Lab and the Centre for Life History and Life Writing Research, give seminar papers at other UK universities, and convene a symposium on gender, media and technology.
