The 2015 Being Human festival, with more than 260 events and other activities across the UK, asked the question: 'What does it mean to be human, and how does the latest humanities research add to our understanding?'
The 11-day festival highlighted the richness and vitality of humanities research and the ways it benefits society. Activities were hosted in all manner of weird and wonderful locations – cemeteries, sewing cafes, museums, pubs, markets cathedrals, and in hidden spaces beneath city streets – and covered a range of topics from the politics of migration to gender issues, science and health to education and the arts, culture to technology.

Being Human Festival Programme
The festival kicked off in earnest on 12 November with an evening of activities in the University of London’s iconic Senate House. The launch party provided a taster of Being Human activities across the country – featuring everything from a panel of experts exploring the humanities, a ‘Carnival of Lost Emotions’, a pop-up screen printing workshop, ‘armchair tours’ of some of the hidden spaces of Senate House and a chance to play on a ‘hackable’ musical instrument.
The British Academy is delighted to be a partner on the second Being Human festival, working with The School of Advanced Study, The Arts and Humanities Research Council, and The Wellcome Trust.
