BSA - Spartan Race-ism: an Other view

Mon 23 Oct 2017, 18:00 - 19:30

Venue
The British Academy, 10-11 Carlton House Terrace, London, SW1Y 5AH

This event is organised by the British School at Athens

It's hard to avoid the ancient Spartans these days – they are continually popping up in popular culture and media, but not always in the most pleasant and reassuring ways. Contemporary reception seems oddly to mirror the ancient 'mirage' – either very positive or very negative, rarely a balanced middle way. In this lecture, Professor Paul Cartledge will introduce the fruits of his latest on-site Spartan research as well as revisiting some older terrain.

Speaker:
Professor Paul Cartledge, Emeritus A. G. Leventis Professor of Greek Culture, University of Cambridge

This event is free to attend and will be followed by light refreshments.
