The British Academy, the Academy of Medical Sciences, the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society have argued that for sustainable economic growth, the UK needs to get smarter.
The UK research base is vibrant, successful, and punches above its weight amongst its global counterparts, but it will struggle to maintain this strength, and deliver on its potential, without long term support – both strategic and financial.
Between September and October, the academies will hold one key event at each of the three main party conferences: Can research and innovation fuel the UK economy?
- What part can research and innovation play in the UK’s future prosperity?
- How can the world class UK research base best be translated to the economic and social benefit of the UK?
- How can public policy better marry the fruits of academic research with commercial opportunities?
- How can industry be facilitated to invest more in research and development?
