High Level Strategy Group for Quantitative Skills

The British Academy's High Level Strategy Group for Quantitative Skills (HLSG) brings together people and organisations committed to spreading and deepening data skills in the social sciences - how they are learned, taught and used. It is chaired by Professor Ian Diamond, FBA. The aim of the HLSG is to address the deficit in QS in social sciences and humanities in the UK. The Group's activities focus on: high-level knowledge exchange; maintaining a strategic overview of data and quantitative capacity in UK institutions; advising on short and long-term priorities for data skills in higher education.

Current Priorities of the HLSG

Towards a National Strategy
The HLSG is developing a national strategy for addressing the QS deficit in the UK. The national strategy identifies common ground where experts and organisaions with an interst in the spread and depth of QS learning, teaching and use can cooperate for the purpose of having greater impact. The strategy seeks to coordinate, champion and support work aimed at promoting and improving QS in social sciences.

Data Skills Manifesto
The Data Skills Manifesto calls for the establishment of a data skills minimum among social science students. It is a practice document which points to what role different stakeholders, including government, learned societies, universities, employers and students can do.
