As the UK’s national body for the humanities and social sciences, the British Academy champions the study of peoples, cultures and societies – past, present and future. Bringing independence, authority and objectivity to complex issues, we contribute significantly to public policy, skills, education and research and help to shape both society and the economy.

The Newton Fund uses science and innovation partnerships to promote economic development and social welfare across a broad spectrum of countries – and you will have a crucial part to play in its delivery. Overseeing all aspects of administration for the Newton Fund and Newton International Fellowships, you will shape policy and practice, deploy budgets, monitor and evaluate progress and liaise with senior Government stakeholders and grant applicants. At the same time, you will manage training and networking events, drive promotion and marketing and represent the Academy at a broad spectrum of meetings and events, giving you exceptional visibility.

Experienced in grant administration or research within higher education, you will be skilled in leading programmes of activity and knowledgeable regarding the international research landscape. Ideally you will be qualified to postgraduate level and familiar with organising events, but more importantly you should be capable of using your initiative to the full, analysing complex problems and thinking creatively. Needless to say, you will be an effective presenter and influencer, with the sensitivity to deal with stakeholders from diverse cultures and the tenacity to meet changing deadlines under pressure.

The Academy offers 34 days of annual holiday, excellent benefits (including a defined benefit pension scheme) and one of the best locations in London.
