This workshop is targeted at early-career researchers of African literary and cultural studies, including those working on or through African cultural history, performance, literatures, music, visual cultures, gender, media and technology, creative industries, world literature and postcolonial studies. It is designed to have a direct impact on the number of articles in this field being published in high-impact international journals by scholars inside, rather than outside Africa, and to open up the potential for more collaborative work between Africa-based and UK-based scholars. By hosting the writing workshop at one of Africa’s leading literary festivals, the intention is to expand the possibilities for work that offers new approaches to literary activism and cultural production in 21st-century Africa, putting researchers into direct dialogue with leading cultural producers based on the continent.
