Researching Genocide

The main objective of this workshop is to elevate the work of 48 Rwandan early-career researchers who over the last three years have been mentored through the Aegis Trust’s programme in Research, Policy and Higher Education. During this mentorship scheme, the researchers (across four cohorts, working on a total of 37 separate projects) are being guided through one entire research project, from the inception phase through fieldwork, analysis and writing. Each research project is intended to culminate in a working paper and policy brief, the first tranche of which has been published online through the Aegis Trust’s Genocide Research Hub.

Through this workshop, the researchers will be further mentored to turn their working papers into articles for submission to international peer-reviewed journals. The aims are to build the capacity of Rwandan researchers; to develop a vibrant community of opinion leaders who can contribute to the development and welfare of post-genocide Rwanda; to produce Rwandan-led knowledge about Rwanda and broader themes around development and post-conflict recovery; and, in doing so, to shape international debates about Rwanda and these wider issues.
