These workshops have been designed to cover the three components that characterise today’s professional landscape in higher education: academic writing and publishing; public engagement and thought leadership; and institutional career success. These three components comprise interdependent aspects of establishing academic influence and career growth. Early career participants in each workshop will be joined by five to 10 senior academics, most of whom are also journal editors, from a range of institutions (both African and UK-based) who will mentor them throughout the event and in the months subsequent to the workshop. The activities will respond to both particular cutting-edge trends and expressed needs by scholars based at African universities. It is hoped that what is gained at the workshops will build institutional research cultures that will yield long-term benefits.
