Well-being: What role can public policy play?

Publications • Ayse Yemiscigil, Nicholas Stern

For this, our third series of British Academy Debates, the Academy focused on one of the most testing areas for UK policy makers: well-being. Our purpose was to shed light on what the facts tell us, and provide a dispassionate expert analysis of them from leading figures in humanities and social science research. This commentary, by Ayse Yemiscigil, describes some of the research on which the speakers drew and the thinking they presented in the Debates. The Academy itself takes no particular position on these matters; our aim is to lay out the underlying materials as a contribution to the continuing debate.
