1. importunitatem/improbitatem: It is unlikely that the Master would undertake this work at the request of a student he regarded as "wicked". It is possible that improbitas could be given some weaker sense (e.g. "naughty", "pesky", etc.), but not likely.
2. adduces ac/ quis adduceret aut: The rejected text makes somewhat better sense perhaps, but it is not well enough supported by the witnesses.
3. despicient/despiciant: The future tense is required by the context.
4. alicuius/aut cuius: The rejected text makes no sense. It would have been easy to misread "alicuius" as "aut cuius".
5. quondam, nunc: The rejected text implies that John XXII was right to replace Michael as Minister General, which is not Ockham's view. The point of the use of initials of proper names is to avoid such implications. The rejected addition must have been made very early in the manuscript tradition from which Ba, To and Es descend: Gerald Ott ceased to be Minister General in 1342 (Miethke, Ockhams Weg, p. 425, n. 309).
