Professor David Runciman is Professor of Politics at Cambridge University and Head of the Department of Politics and International Studies.  He is the author of a number of books including The Confidence Trap: A History of Democracy in Crisis from World War One to the Present (2013).  He currently co-directs two major interdisciplinary research projects based in Cambridge: ‘Conspiracy and Democracy’ and ‘Technology and Democracy’.  He writes regularly about politics in the London Review of Books and is the host of the weekly podcast Talking Politics.
